Interbank, open market and digital dollar: which "dollar rate" applies to you?
- Interbank: the State Bank’s reference, used for trade settlement and quoted in the news. You cannot buy or sell at it as an individual.
- Open market: cash dollars at licensed exchange companies. Usually a few rupees above interbank for buying and below it for selling; limits and ID requirements apply.
- Digital dollar: a dollar balance you hold online. Freelancers receive these on Payoneer, Skrill or in USDT; the rupee value depends on demand for each asset. USDT tends to track the open market closely, Payoneer and Skrill trade at their own rates because they can only be moved inside those systems, and WebMoney WMZ trades lower still. How to sell dollars online for PKR

Why the digital rate is not the same as the news rate
The interbank rate is a wholesale benchmark. Every retail channel adds a margin for its costs and risk, and digital assets also carry a liquidity premium or discount: an asset that is easy to resell (USDT) sells closer to the open-market rate than one that is locked inside a payment systеm.
